My name is Judit Matthews (maiden name: Judit Sandor). I was born in Szeged, in Hungary in 1975. After my A-levels I came to England as an au-pair in my gap year in 1994. I met Jim, who is now my husband. I have 2 children: Harry and Emma. My work is very exciting and unique with lots of detail in an illustrative style. I get my inspiration from paper cutting artists and my Hungarian heritage with rich folk art. I also enjoy drawing natural, organic forms and use them as patterns. My mediums are pen and ink with some watercolour or acrylic ink for colour; sometimes even collage for extra texture. I also paint on woodblock using acrylics, inks and oil pastels. I like to simplify shapes and not to pay too much attention to scale or the real colour. I paint whimsical, quirky pictures with animals, creating a story, narrative. I have taken part in several group/mixed exhibitions and I also had a few very successful solo shows. In 2000 I took part in Channel 4’s Watercolour Challenge and my painting was displayed in The Mall Galleries. I have also taken part in the Hampstead Heath Affordable Art Fair. My work has appeared in The Leisure Painter and The Artist magazines as the Editor’s pick. I have won the Surrey Life magazine’s Landscape Painter of the year 2017 competition. My work has been accepted to the annual exhibition of the Society of Women Artists and as a result one of my paintings was displayed in the Mall galleries in 2017. In 2018 I got into the top 10 in the art competition ran by Sheengate Publishing and judged by Ken Howard. My artwork appeared in the Richmond Magazine. I exhibit in various galleries all around the country – Crystal Palace, Dorking, Scotland etc. I run monthly workshops at my home studio. www.juditmatthews.artweb.com firstname.lastname@example.org
